學(xué)校肇始于1912年,前身為留美歸國、醫(yī)學(xué)教育家顏福慶先生創(chuàng)立的長沙紅十字會(huì)看護(hù)訓(xùn)練所,1924年正式建立長沙仁術(shù)護(hù)病學(xué)校。1961年從長沙搬遷至安江建立黔陽地區(qū)衛(wèi)生學(xué)校,1984年搬遷至懷化并更名為懷化地區(qū)衛(wèi)生學(xué)校。2000年3月,升格為懷化醫(yī)學(xué)高等專科學(xué)校。2014年5月,經(jīng)教育部批準(zhǔn)升格并更名為湖南醫(yī)藥。
